The first thing you may hear yourself asking, do people even do these anymore?
Perhaps not with so much vigour and intent but our minds are definitely conditioned to at least think about or feel as though we need to achieve something as of the 1st of Jan.
Why is bad for our energetic wellbeing?
Firstly, we’re all different and although the Gregorian calendar is the one we all go by, it is ultimately a guide. A way to break up our time and help us connect memories to.
What you should be doing is letting other tellers of time guide and dictate when and what you do. This way of living dates back to ancient civilisations – they only had the sun and moon to guide them, as well as the stars and seasons. By following these ancient ways is by no means a step back, in fact it helps you to slow down and release the unnecessary pressures that society has burdened you with.
If the end of the year is a time where you feel like you haven’t achieved much, or you are bombarded with the celebrations and goal settings of people on social media - which in turn, makes you question yourself or leaves you feeling overwhelmed, anxious or just sad, then there is a high chance it will be impacting your wellbeing on some level.
Instead, of thinking of the New Year as a time for you to re-invent yourself, you could do the following:
Remember firstly that it is still winter in January, a time to slow down, release and relax not ramp up activities and start a tone of ‘new’ things
Follow the seasons, which means that spring is a time for new beginnings, projects, new life (from a plant kingdom perspective) as the days get lighter you are more likely to feel better in yourself and therefore your goals will be more aligned to your wellbeing
Search for the Moon and sync your energy and thought patterns to her. She goes through a cycle each month – this allows for a flow of energy, to reflect and renew actions during a New Moon and to take account and re-energise during a Full Moon.
Follow the astrological cycle, where Aries in March represents taking action this also coincides with Spring, making far more sense than one day of the year to start something new.
You have the power within you to take your energy from a place of fear, thoughts of failure or overwhelm especially during New Year’s celebrations and Jan 1st resolutions, to a place of kindness, empowerment and confidence to create and lead your own life.
